The Grand Oriental Hotel, also known as the Taprobane for sometime, was most popular not only with ships' passengers but also with the Colombo City Residents, as the Hotel had acquired a reputation for ballroom dancing. The Grand Oriental crockery and furniture was a collectors item and adopted for fashionable use as GOH plates and GOH chairs.

The hotel was completely re-furbished and re-opened for business in 1991 and continues to offer traditional charm and superb service for which the Grand Oriental was always famous throughout its history.

Conference and banquet facilities include the Lotus Ballroom which can accommodate 600 guests; the Satin Room has a capacity of 60 to 75 guests; and the Rainbow Room can hold up to 350 persons. All of which are equipped with overhead projectors, audio and video equipment.

Blue Leopard Night club and Discotheque with modern state-of-the-art furniture, fantastic lighting and sounds, a dance floor that takes the spotlight and a well-stocked bar. Live band with popular Disc Jocky (DJ) in attendance.
