Health in Sri Lanka
Being healthy is absolutely an
essential qualification of travelers, and be well-prepared for
your health before traveling is a good idea to do. Risks and
dangers in different places you visit are always possible to be
encountered; it is then even better to be ready to encounter that
kind of things which probably ruin your trip and undoubtedly
you.
Entering Sri Lanka, vaccination
against the Yellow Fever is legally required. The
requirement is only enforced in involvement with people coming
from the infected areas like Central Africa and parts of South
America.
Other immunizations before
traveling in Sri Lanka are also recommended for any longer trip in
the Island, including Diphtheria & Tetanus, Hepatitis A
and B, Japanese B Encephalitis, Polio, Rabies, Tuberculosis, and
Typhoid. Malaria medication should be brought with you
incase of travel to the high-risk area of the disease. Basic
equipments for first-aid such as bandage, band-aids, and other
wound dressing should be prepared as well.
Considering food in Sri Lanka,
well-washed vegetable and fruits, as well as well-cooked dishes
are the best choices. Be aware of ice cream that is sold in the
street or anywhere; it might have been melted and refrozen.
Shellfish like mussels and oysters that are just steamed should be
avoided for steaming does not make shellfish safe enough to eat.
When it comes to water, the
bottled water or soft drinks are generally good. Tea and coffee is
also fine for the water should have been boiled. If you happen to
take a long trip, a water filter is recommended. |
